Why to Ban SLS

There is fair chance that you are poisoning your own skin and hair every day and have no knowledge about it.

It is a saying that whatever you eat you must know what it contains entirely. But the sad part is nobody really made it a compulsion of knowing the contents of our daily care products too. We choose whatever we feel like suits our hair or skin best. Not giving any second thoughts to the components it is made of. Remember that cologne you fell in love with the other day at that store? The thought of the chemicals it is made of would never have crossed your mind. But for the record, you have been poisoning your body for a very long time now without having any knowledge about it.

There are a set of chemicals used in skin care products which are highly dangerous altogether. And one them is SLS.

What is SLS?

SLS stands for Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. It’s a surfactant used in cleaning products, cosmetics, personal care products and hair care products. SLS proved to be chemically safe for use in the past but in some recent studies, it is found that SLS is a highly dangerous substance and can cause several kinds of diseases and skin care problems.

SLS has gained its popularity because of its ability to form a lather. People prefer their cleansing products with lather building substances because it helps in cleansing more swiftly. But the fact is, you can use much milder products which are skin friendly and can get the same results as SLS.

Origin of SLS

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate wasn’t a component of skin care products from forever. It started off as a detergent in the beginning and was used for industrial purpose only for heavy duty cleaners and degreasers.

But as the skin care industry grew bigger, they started using SLS as a lathering agent because for a fact, it was way cheaper than the other agents.

Save your hair and skin

You might should know this before buying the next skincare or hair care product that, when you feel so happy about the lather your shampoo creates, it is probably because of SLS which is in the long run damaging your hair from roots–to-tips, snatching all the moisture away from it.

But if you want to be rescued from the SLS crises then use products which have milder and more skin membrane friendly substances. Read the product details carefully and see if the product contains fatty acids. Because if so, then that will just work perfect for the complete cleansing of your skin without actually harming it.
