ARTHRITIS
Definition- Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. It can affect one or multiple joints. There are more than 100 types of arthritis, with different symptoms, causes and treatment methods.
Age group-
Most commonly seen in adults over 65.
Can also develop in teenagers and youngsters
Common in overweight people
Symptoms and causes- the symptoms of arthritis usually develop over time, but they may also appear suddenly.
OSTEOARTHRITIS (OA)
Definition-
It is the most common type of arthritis, also known as:
- degenerative joint disease
- degenerative arthritis
- wear-and-tear arthritis
Age group- Common in men and women above 25 years of age.
Symptoms and causes- OA is caused by a breakdown in the cartilage that covers the joints. The tissue which protects our joints gets damaged by age and repeated movements. This increases friction as the bones of the joints rub against each other. It can also cause damage to the bones. The most common symptoms of OA are pain and stiffness.
RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
Definition- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that can cause joint pain and damage to our entire body. The joint damage that RA causes happens on both sides of the body. That means is a joint on the left side of the body is affected then the joint on the right is probably going to be affected too.
Age group-
Symptoms and causes- Treatments works best when RA is diagnosed early, so it’s very crucial to learn and understand the signs. RA is marked by symptoms of inflammation and pain in the joints.
RA symptoms include:
- joint pain
- joint swelling
- joint stiffness
- loss of joint function
